Each year, the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals (OCFF) honours the work of an individual or group that has made significant contributions to Ontario's folk music community. The OCFF has awarded this year's Estelle Klein Award to Sharon, Lois & Bram.

A New Jack Grunsky Release : Better go catch it

There's something going around, and thank goodness it's contagious. Please be advised that it is infectious to both parents and children, and may cause ear-to-ear smiles and spontaneous vocalization. It is "Catchy Tune", singer-songwriter Jack Grunsky's 13th recording for children.

Named for the song, "Chika Chika, Catchy Tune", the new CD, which has already received the iParenting Media Award, underlines Grunsky's belief in the importance of music-making for children, to make them happy, self-respecting beings. The dances, anthems and comforting melodies on this recording, reach to the core of childhood experience - - learning to live in harmony with the earth; expressing oneself through art, dance and song; and just plain having fun. In this, as in his other releases, three of which have been awarded the Juno Award for best children's recording, Jack gives children exactly what they deserve. He offers them an incredibly diverse range of musical styles, lyrics that are pure poetry, and such precision and attention to detail in the arrangement, any adult could listen to the recording a hundred times over.

Ready to awaken children to life's possibilities, "Catchy Tune", will bring Jack's gentle messages and sophisticated world music sensibility to young minds, giving them an opportunity to grow.

A constant creative force in the children's music industry, Jack performs solo or with various accompanists. In schools he plays solo, often including students in his 'Big Blue Ball' community outreach programs. In theatres and family concert settings, he works with his band, which includes his daughter, Cosima. Jack also presents keynotes and workshops at educational conferences throughout North America. His symphony show for young audiences called, "Sing With The Orchestra", has enjoyed an enthusiastic response from audiences, as well as from the conductors and musicians themselves.

Jack will celebrate the release of "Catchy Tune", with three concerts at Toronto's Solar Stage Children's Theatre, on Sunday, September 28, 2008. The CD is being released on Casablanca Kids and will be available in Canadian stores mid-August and US stores in early September 2008, or may be ordered directly through www.casablancakids.com or Jack's website at www.jackgrunsky.com.
